Elon is right when he talks about philanthropy and the reality of actual good vs the perception of it. I also think we should focus more on the original meaning of the word. Which is love of humanity. You can love humanity by building things that are beneficial for humanity. Giving things away for free is not the only way to be philanthropic.

Sentinel Bio's @jtmonrad calls out the two extremes ruining philanthropy: vanity on one side, "performative rigor" on the other "One would be not caring about impact at all and doing it for vanity, doing it for ego, get your name on the building. That's definitely been a big f*ck-up." "You can also fail in the other direction, where you have this almost performative fetish with cost-effectiveness for its own sake and rigor for its own sake." "One of the people who mentored me as I got into the philanthropic world would call out often when I would write these very detailed, meticulous grant investigations, and she would say, this is performative rigor. You already know what you want to do, but you feel emotionally I have to justify it with a very fancy model." "When we're talking about these issues that are so urgent, that are such grand scale, what matters is that we solve the problems, not that we make a lot of good deals along the way. My job is to solve a biosecurity problem, not to make individually cost-effective or rigorous grants."

The OpenAI Foundation is launching AI for Civil Society and Philanthropy to help nonprofits, community organizations, and other trusted partners put advanced AI to work on urgent challenges, develop practical solutions and scale what works. The first effort is a $100 million commitment with Common Health Coalition to launch Breakthroughs to Follow-through to help care teams use AI to reach more patients with proven treatments - starting with the goal of doubling hepatitis C cure rates in Alabama, Illinois, Louisiana, and Massachusetts. Breakthroughs to Follow-through will work to identify patients who have fallen out of care, synthesize records, track progress, and focus limited staff time where it can have the greatest impact. The OpenAI Foundation wants to empower those who are closest to issues and to put AI to work where it can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Ansem on why he wants to do MrBeast style philanthropy with solana:9cRCn9rGT8V2imeM2BaKs13yhMEais3ruM3rPvTGpump "I've had a lot of people come up to me like, yo I made money because you were bullish on SOL or Bonk or whatever... but I never know who these people are. most of my followers are anon. I literally can't interface with all these people" "One of the cool things MrBeast does is he gives away a lot of money to his community. One of the reasons he garners so much attention is because he gives so much away" "It's even better with trading markets, because if you have capital and you're learning how to trade at the same time, you don't just get that capital but you can multiply it. That's why airdrops in crypto are so huge" "I have the education piece where we talk about stuff on Market Bubble. I have Bullpen where people can trade everything. And now I have this coin. I can do the philanthropy and entertainment piece with it"
