What happened next is deeply disturbing. The police initially told her mother that the driver was German. Days later the truth came out: it was four Iraqis in the car. The mother was told they withheld the real background because they didn’t want to create a "Wilders-effect" — they didn’t want to give Geert Wilders political ammunition. Even worse: evidence strongly suggests Tamar’s body was moved after the accident. The driver didn’t just flee, they dragged her off the road and left her there like an animal. The driver received only a €1,500 fine for looking at his phone while driving. He then disappeared completely. The fine was returned “undeliverable” and for years he was untraceable. Only after years of fighting by the family (including going to court to force prosecution), a breakthrough came in March 2026: the now 33-year old Jamal is finally being prosecuted for causing the fatal accident and leaving the scene. Just like Henry Nowak in Southampton — an innocent young person dies, authorities seem more focused on protecting a narrative and avoiding “political incorrectness” than on delivering swift justice. The system lies about the identity of the driver, gives him a slap on the wrist, loses him for years, and only after massive pressure does real prosecution begin. This is not just a traffic accident. This is a story about truth, accountability, and what happens when institutions put ideology before grieving families. Her name was Tamar. She was 14. She deserved better. ♡

A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor#. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour. Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces. At the same time, it showcased the growing jointness among our forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to our national security. Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem.

Some works really are those towering pieces of creation that automatically instil a feeling of respect for them, and after experiencing such works you are left feeling grateful for having been able to enjoy one of life's greatest mental and emotional nourishment. The Iliad, one of the oldest surviving texts, demands that respect, not because of its old age but for its timelessness. Yes, you are thrown into the middle of a 10 year long Greek-Trojan conflict, and it's natural to be intimidated before starting this journey because its reputation precedes it, but make use of technology and get the basic necessary context and choose the right translation (I wholeheartedly recommend Robert Fagles' one) and please just jump in and trust yourself and the beauty of the language to instantly grip you. Coming to the story itself, although I have read only a few books in my lifetime, this particular piece might be the grandest, the most brutal and yet one of the most complete works due to integrating a plethora of real human traits like aggression, fear, honour, pettiness, leadership, confusion, but most importantly trusting in Gods and their blessings but in yourself too and doing what's necessary even if Gods betray you. From detailed gory deaths to legendary men poking fun at each other, from slightly dragging heritage descriptions to relentless pacing of men and Gods taking the battle seriously, as a reader you just can't half-heartedly digest this grand feast, otherwise the loss is yours, the flavours were right there but you missed them. I have read every passage twice before heading to the next because the combined genius of Homer and Fagles would not allow you to just casually read, as every other line is enriched with beautiful imagery and delicious wording, and hence this is also my most underlined book till now. Achilles is more than everything that I heard about him, instantly one of my favourite literary figures. I was not prepared for Odysseus and how much he brings to the table. Giant Ajax and Diomedes are the backbone of the Greeks, and Patroclus cemented himself with his brief appearance. Hector is simply that man, he is everything that a man in his position must do if his fate is already sealed, and Aeneas got my special attention due to him reappearing in my future read, The Aeneid. The Gods, especially Zeus, provide a whole other layer of entertainment and their actions always intrigued me. I really can't properly conclude this piece that I started writing because I didn't even touch the most aura-inducing titles and epithets associated with men and Gods, some of the most memorable quotes, the breathtaking imagery of battlefields and Mount Olympus, the earnest description of physical attributes of characters and their armour and robes, or the way this poem fills you with all possible adrenaline and then at the next moment drains you completely, leaves you melancholic, and ultimately makes your day feel like an achievement having read it. Basically I haven't said anything meaningful because I'm really just incapable of adding anything to the legacy of this epic text. And now my Odyssey begins…

I recently spoke at the Sundance Film Festival on a panel about AI. Sundance is an annual gathering of filmmakers and movie buffs that serves as the premier showcase for independent films in the United States. Knowing that many people in Hollywood are extremely uncomfortable about AI, I decided to immerse myself for a day in this community to learn about their anxieties and build bridges. I’m grateful to Daniel Dae Kim @danieldaekim, an actor/producer/director I’ve come to respect deeply for his artistic and social work, for organizing the panel, which also included Daniel, Dan Kwan, Jonathan Wang, and Janet Yang. I found myself surrounded by award-winning filmmakers and definitely felt like the odd person out! First, Hollywood has many reasons to be uncomfortable with AI. People from the entertainment industry come from a very different culture than many who work in tech, and this drives deep differences in what we focus on and what we value. A significant subset of Hollywood is concerned that: - AI companies are taking their work to learn from it without consent and compensation. Whereas the software industry is used to open source and the open internet, Hollywood focuses much more on intellectual property, which underlies the core economic engines of the entertainment industry. - Powerful unions like SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) are deeply concerned about protecting the jobs of their members. When AI technology (or any other force) threatens the livelihoods of their members — like voice actors — they will fight mightily against potential job losses. - This wave of technological change feels forced on them more than previous waves, where they felt more free to adopt or reject the technology. For example, celebrities felt like it was up to them whether to use social media. In contrast, negative messaging from some AI leaders who present the technology as unstoppable, perhaps even a dangerous force that will wipe out many jobs, has not encouraged enthusiastic adoption. Having said that, Hollywood is under no illusions that AI will change entertainment, and that if Hollywood does not adapt, perhaps some other place will become the new center for entertainment. The entertainment industry is no stranger to technology change. Radio, TV, computer graphics special effects, video streaming, and social media transformed the industry. But the path to navigating AI’s transformation is still unclear, and organizations like the new Creators Coalition on AI are trying to stake out positions. Unfortunately, Hollywood’s negative sentiment toward AI also means it will produce a lot more Terminator-like movies that portray AI as more dangerous than helpful, and this hurts beneficial AI adoption as well. The interests of AI and Hollywood are not always aligned. (Every time I speak in a group like this as the “AI representative,” I can count on being asked very hard questions.) Most of us in tech would prefer a more open internet and more permissive use of creative works. But there is also much common ground, for example in wanting guardrails against deepfakes and a smooth transition for those whose jobs are displaced, perhaps via upskilling. Storytelling is hard. I’m optimistic that AI tools like Veo, Sora, Runway, Kling, Ray, Hailuo, and many others can make video creation easier for millions of people. I hope Hollywood and AI developers will find more opportunities to collaborate, find more common ground, and also steer our projects toward outcomes that are win-win for as many parties as possible.
