NEWS: Fidelity Investments, a major SpaceX shareholder, said it sees a viable path for Elon Musk's vision of AI data centers in orbit, but said the economics hinge on Starship becoming operational at scale.
"Conceptually it makes a ton of sense in the longer term to be thinking about data centers in space," said Karin Fronczke, Fidelity's head of global private equity investments. "The question of course becomes: Is it economical? And frankly what we've been watching for as investors is Starship."
SpaceX has pitched orbital compute infrastructure as a way to bypass terrestrial constraints including power grids and land use.
