Avalanche runs three blockchains at once, and each one has a different job Avalanche (@avax) splits its main network, called the Primary Network, across the C-Chain, the P-Chain, and the X-Chain. The C-Chain is EVM-compatible, so apps built for Ethereum can run there. Since September’s Helicon upgrade, the network can lock in the order of new blocks while still running the transactions in earlier ones. The P-Chain tracks validators, handles staking and the launch of new Avalanche chains. The X-Chain is where tokens are created and traded, including $AVAX. All three chains charge fees in AVAX, and each chain keeps separate balances, so AVAX has to be moved over before it can be used on another chain.
