🛰 Faster detection supports a faster response. The first three operational FireSat satellites launched last week as part of CAL FIRE's partnership with the Earth Fire Alliance. FireSat is designed to help detect and monitor wildfires from space, adding another source of information for firefighters. Once all satellites are in orbit and are fully operational, they will be able to detect fires as small as 5 by 5 meters (two parking spots) anywhere on Earth, providing updated observations every 20 minutes or less. Combined with aircraft, cameras, drones, mapping technology, and reports from crews on the ground, satellite data can help provide a clearer picture of wildfire conditions.
