Paul of Tarsus once persecuted Christians. He thought he was doing the right thing until God arrested him on the road to Damascus. That same man later became one of Christianity’s greatest missionaries, preaching to Jews and Gentiles. Several books of the New Testament are attributed to him, including Romans, Galatians and Ephesians. It reminds me of what Nathanael said when he heard about Jesus: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip simply replied, “Come and see.” Jesus was born in Bethlehem but raised in Nazareth, and He became known as Jesus of Nazareth. So when I heard that Tonto Dikeh is opening New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle, I found myself thinking about how quickly we judge people by their past. Many of us remember Tonto from her very outspoken days on social media, her controversies and the public issues surrounding her personal life. But does someone's past mean God cannot give them a new direction? I'm not here to endorse or condemn her new church. That's between her, her congregation and God. But I believe people deserve room to change. If God could transform Saul, a persecutor of Christians, into Paul, a great servant of the early church, then we should never be too quick to conclude that nothing good can come from someone. God can use anybody. Sometimes, something good can still come out of Nazareth.
