Never give up. You never know when someone or something will change your life.
20-year-old Abbie Jo Rutledge was pulled over for speeding by Alabama State Trooper J.T. Brown. When she explained that she was broke and working a dead-end job, he let her off with a warning and wrote a life-changing message on her citation: “Promise me you’ll go to scrub or nursing school, and slow down, and I won’t give you a ticket.”
She enrolled in a surgical technology program the next day, and two years later graduated as a certified surgical technologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. She invited Trooper Brown to her graduation, where they held up the original warning ticket together.
