As a psychiatrist, the most maddening thing is that an alarming percentage of my clinical discipline would be happy to call this a 'walking stick disorder', describe clinical criteria, write policy documents and treatment protocols, talk about an 'evidence base' and 'best practice', remind everyone that walking sticks are historical and transcultural, call themselves 'allies', advocate for safe spaces and rage against the discrimination encountered by whole families of walking stick users, whose sticks must be supplied by a taxpayer-funded disability scheme.
