I remember my eldest (19) coming home from nursery and telling me about her new best friend.
I heard about her lovely dress, how funny she was, that she'd made her laugh, what theyd done all day. The town was 99.9% white cornish at the time. It didnt cross my mind that this little girl was anything other than cornish.
It was about 2 months before I met this best friend.
Never, in all that time, had my daughter mentioned she was black, she just loved her. The only black kid in the nursery, yet NONE of the children neither noticed or cared.
In less than 2 decades we've gone from Sesame Street levels of treating people with kindness and as equals, to pitting our children against each other.
Shame on all the parents and teachers that have removed innocence from children.
