Not LGBTQ+. Not an immigrant.... Meet MAGAt Dennis W. Laferty, a former pastor of the Thompson United Methodist Church in Geauga County, Ohio, who was indicted on March 10, 2023, on seven counts of sexual misconduct—including five counts of sexual battery, one count of gross sexual imposition, and one count of sexual imposition—for the sexual abuse of his own daughters. The severe criminal allegations against the local religious leader stemmed from illegal actions targeting the minors that occurred between November 30, 2019, and January 30, 2023. The legal process moved forward on June 22, 2023, when Laferty entered a guilty plea to two counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of sexual imposition. Following his plea, his leadership role officially ended as the church suspended him and subsequently changed its pastoral leadership. The case concluded on July 28, 2023, when a judge sentenced Laferty to two years in prison. In addition to his prison term, the court mandated that he must register as a Tier II sex offender for 25 years upon his release.
