Waymo Co CEO Dmitri Dolgov doesn’t take Tesla Robotaxi approach (using pure vision) seriously and thinks it will only match human performance. “if you are targeting full autonomy and superhuman, strongly superhuman performance, you find that weak sensing leads to a safety curve that flattens out way too early” Ashok VP of AI at Tesla says: “Historically, the so-called experts claimed you need LiDARs, radars, HD maps — the entire kitchen sink — to drive safely. Here we show that is not true. You can have safe, comfortable, and affordable autonomy with just cameras.” Pure vision will be way beyond human ability as FSD V14 has already begun to showcase. I respect what Waymo is doing and has done but respectfully, prepare to be humbled.
