Australia’s first 8-hour long-duration battery is now operating in Limondale, NSW. 🇦🇺 Built by RWE, the project uses 144 Tesla Megapacks with more than 400 MWh of energy storage. • Charges at up to 100 MW • Discharges at up to 50 MW • Delivers power for 8+ hours at maximum output • Stores excess renewable energy during the day • Supplies it through the evening peak and into the night What’s especially interesting is that it can charge roughly twice as fast as it discharges. That allows the system to absorb large amounts of solar and other renewable energy during the day, then release it gradually over many hours after sunset. Tesla Megapack is expanding beyond short-duration grid balancing into long-duration energy storage.
