In 1999, shortly after becoming a multi-millionaire from selling Zip2, Elon Musk took delivery of a McLaren F1 and said:
“I could go and buy one of the islands in the Bahamas and turn it into my personal fiefdom. I’m much more interested in trying to build and create a new company.”
He chose building over luxury.
That decision led to PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, and everything that followed.
