In 2016, Jensen Huang personally delivered NVIDIA’s first DGX-1 AI supercomputer to Elon Musk and the OpenAI team
One moment that shaped the entire AI era happened right here
Jensen even signed it:
“To Elon & the OpenAI Team! To the Future of Computing and AI”
At the time, it was a powerful new machine being delivered to a most ambitious team-building AI
Looking back now, it's insane how much has changed
Jensen was building the compute infrastructure that would eventually power the AI revolution
Elon was already pushing aggressively toward advanced AI before most of the world understood how transformative it could become, starting OpenAI as a nonprofit with the sole goal of making AI benefit the entire humanity
Two people who went on the shape the entire AI era, standing together at one of its defining early moments
DGX-1 turns 10!
I delivered the first DGX-1 to OpenAI in SF on Aug 9, 2016.
On it, I wrote: "To the future of computing and humanity." It was a new kind of computer for a new kind of software.
Ten years later, I gave Elon a DGX Spark while visiting SpaceX. "From a single spark, a world of intelligence."
Spark is 1 PFLOP of NVFP4 at 200W — 5x DGX-1, in a tiny desktop computer.
Just imagine the next 10 years.
