[ Made in CCP China ] Imagine spending close to a million yuan on a Huawei-backed luxury MPV that promises to redefine Chinese premium mobility, only for three brand-new examples to snap their brake pedals during ordinary emergency stops. Dongchedi’s closed-track tests on the Maextro V800 showed the plastic bracket failing at roughly 1,612 N—well short of the 2,000 N industry benchmark—after just two to four hard stops from 100 km/h. With the pedal gone, the cars could only be brought to a halt via the park mechanism, stretching stopping distance from about 38 meters to roughly 140. JAC shares promptly hit the daily 10 percent limit down. The company and Maextro later pledged a redesign plus free upgrades for owners, while noting no customer incidents have been reported yet. That is cold comfort for a vehicle launched in August as the domestic answer to the Alphard and Lexus LM, complete with refrigerator, coffee service, and active suspension. The irony is difficult to miss. A brand that markets itself as the pinnacle of intelligent electric luxury has a structural part that cannot reliably survive the one maneuver every driver hopes never to need. Independent testing caught the flaw before wider delivery; the market’s reaction was immediate. Whether the fix arrives before more owners discover the same limit remains the open question.
