Good piece here on why Ireland is ranked worst-in-Europe on personal taxes. The top German rate is 45%, but applies to income well over a quarter of a million euro. In Ireland, the government takes 48% on anything above €44,000, which was the average earnings in 2024 (latest CSO figures available). It moves to 52% at anything above $70,000, as the higher USC kicks in. For around 4 in 10 people, the government takes more of their overtime, extra work, bonuses and pay increases than they do.
