Most people file onchain yield under "savings account, just a better rate." That framing hides the part that matters. A savings account balance is a claim you can't see the other side of. The bank holds your money on its own balance sheet, promises to honor a number later, sets the rate periodically, posts interest on a schedule, and gates access to business hours and holds. You trust the promise because you have no way to check it. Onchain yield is still a claim — but on something you can actually see. The position sits in a wallet you hold the keys to, against an auditable balance sheet rather than an opaque one. It accrues continuously, so its value reflects the real state of the position at that moment, not a promise about it. And you can exit at any time, because nothing sits between you and the position deciding when you're allowed out. The difference isn't the rate. It's that the claim is transparent, keyed to you, and settles on your schedule instead of the bank's.
