Whenever I talked to a company that was on a DB that no longer delivered what they needed, the real blocker was never moving the data, it was always "but we'll need to spend months rewriting our app". Well, these months just became days. Add few weeks for testing and you are good to go to whatever database fits you well. And as Eric said, it changes not just the growth curve of SaaS. It also changes the margins. You are no longer paying for vendor lock-in. And for engineers it completely changes the "I don't want to use these cool features because of lock-in" part.
