On July 17 Iran put ballistic missiles into Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. Three U.S. soldiers died. The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, says Tehran obtained high-resolution satellite pictures of that base from Chinese entities before the strike—and kept getting imagery after it. Officials call it the clearest link yet between Chinese-side support for Iran in this war and dead Americans. They did not name the firms in the story. They did not accuse Beijing of ordering the attack. That hedge does not wash the pictures off the targeting stack. In May Washington already sanctioned three Chinese remote-sensing companies—MizarVision, Earth Eye, and Chang Guang—for collecting, publishing, or supplying imagery Iran could use against U.S. forces. State had already flagged Chang Guang for feeding the Houthis. Officials say they warned Beijing. Beijing asked for proof and would not admit the companies were in it. Trump, on Air Force One coming back from Ireland, declined to turn that into the lead item for the Sept. 24 meeting with Xi. “They basically do what we do.” “China spies on us? You’re right. We spy on them too.” Xi has “behaved reasonably well.” Spying on each other is the old game. Selling or handing high-res pictures of a U.S. base to the country that then fires on that base is not the old game. It is an eye on a kill chain. The summit can still happen. The three coffins are not a talking point. They are the bill.
