Meta built an entire team to make employees stop using Claude.
Internally, thousands of Meta engineers had been running so much of their daily work through Anthropic's Claude that the company tracked it on a leaderboard.
They called it Claudeonomics.
In one 30 day stretch, Meta employees burned through 73.7 trillion tokens on it, enough that the bill was on pace to hit billions of dollars a year, all while Meta has its own AI coding tool sitting right there.
Meta's CTO had to send a memo about it. He wrote that nobody should be using AI tools just to rack up usage, that token count is not the same thing as actual output. Meta is now building a dashboard called AI Gateway to track who is spending what, and quietly pushing engineers toward its own tool, MetaCode, instead.
Read that twice. The company spending 135 billion dollars this year to build the smartest AI on earth has a workforce that keeps reaching for its rival's model anyway.
You cannot marketing your way out of a product gap.
Your own engineers will always vote with their keyboard.
