Jeff Dean’s AI startup Discovery Loop (
@DiscoLoopAI), founded with fellow ex-Google leaders, is reportedly seeking a $50 billion valuation, up from a $10 billion target about a month ago.
Last month, the company was discussing a $1 billion raise at roughly $10 billion, according to Reuters, citing Business Insider. The terms could change, and a deal at $50 billion is far from guaranteed. The company’s focus is breakthroughs in machine learning, science and engineering. That ambition makes the story worth following beyond the fundraising headline.
My take: a team with this pedigree deserves attention. But a fivefold increase in the asking price raises the bar for what it eventually needs to deliver.
