NEWS: Tesla has hired a 17 year Intel veteran, Gary Jiang, to lead its Terafab chip plant, his LinkedIn profile shows
Jiang is the first named leader for Tesla's plan to build advanced chips in house.
He now lists his role as Director, Terafab, based on site in Austin.
At Intel he spent nearly 18 years, most recently running its cutting edge 18A process.
That covered tool installation and factory ramp, exactly the skill Tesla lacks.
Terafab is Tesla's chip fab project with SpaceX and Intel, announced in March.
Musk has framed the prototype as a $20 billion bet, with the full buildout far larger.
