I included this moving with Arday’s friend, world-leading autism expert, Simon Baron-Cohen in my piece. I urge you to listen to it. Not just because he talks about his loving gentle friend but because he also sets down a precise chronology of events. Arday was cleared of plagiarism under Cambridge’s rules: that the award-giving institution investigates. He accompanied Arday to Liverpool John Moores in February. He was found to have credited the underlying work but incorrectly cited it on each occasion. He was cleared of plagiarism. It was Cambridge’s reversal of its initial decision that damned him. He was literally thrown to the mob. In the next 9 days, Baron-Cohen says his mental health spiralled.
