I am going to explain why this position of Joel’s is very stupid and makes no sense. It actually sets women and men up for failure, all under the pretense of glorifying women. There are two ways to take “rights” from a group.Both require force. You can vote away the rights of a group. This appeals to the force of the state. The state will then enforce the mandates of these rights, or the lack of them. You can bypass the state and use force for compliance, as the state cannot easily use force to stop collective force. That’s it.When Joel says, “I won’t punch women in the mouth; they are too precious,” he is removing the only two viable options for compliance of force. I also don't want to use direct force. Okay. Then what we are left with are appeals to reason. However, Joel doesn’t believe women are capable of that kind of reason—to defy the mandates of men—because they have less agency. So why is he reasoning with them? If you want the collective will of women to change on the matter of rights, you are going to need to appeal to the state for enforcement. Women can vote and aren’t going to vote away their own voting rights.Why? Because men like Joel want to protect them from their own decisions and from the responsibility that comes with the very rights they demand. This gives women collectively more authority and less responsibility than still have to cover the responsibility, and women can make the Joel Webbon appeal: “Why did men let us do this?” Joel Webbon’s answer: “’Cause we failed.” The Andrew Wilson answer, on the other hand: “You did it to yourself, and now you suffer the consequences of your own actions.” Lindsay Clancy is a great example of this. Women being forced to look at the “fruits” of the sisterhood—who are fully enfranchised and have the responsibility of jury duty—and watching them fail miserably to deliver justice, and being held responsible for it.Joel would call that a failure of men, lol.Yes, we are very different on this issue. I am logical and he is emotional. You can't convince absent consequences. Women need to feel the full weight of their decisions if you want collective change.
