Breaking: The House is voting today on the Stop Insider Trading Act
Here's everything in the bill:
• Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children cannot buy new individual stocks. They can keep what they already own
• Before selling any existing stock, lawmakers must file a public notice 7 to 14 days in advance
• Mutual funds, ETFs, index funds, and commodities are still fair game
• Fines for violations jump from $200 to $2,000 or 10% of the trade, whichever is greater
One catch: Republicans attached the Voter ID Act to the bill, which is why most Democrats are expected to vote against it
If it passes the House, it still needs to clear the Senate
