Robots really are everywhere now. 🤖 Even at an airport hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria, I found “Roomy” — a robot butler that delivers food, drinks and hotel amenities directly to guests’ rooms, 24/7. Turns out Roomy has actually been here since 2019. It can navigate the hotel, take the elevator, avoid obstacles and find your room on its own. But here’s the interesting part: it’s a robot, but not really an “intelligent” robot by today’s standards. This generation was largely about automation: map the building, program the destinations, give it a predefined task, and let it execute. The next generation will be very different. Add today’s AI models to increasingly capable physical machines, and robots won’t just follow instructions — they’ll increasingly be able to understand language, perceive situations, reason about what we want, and decide how to accomplish a task. In other words, we’ve already spent years quietly building the bodies. Now we’re giving them brains. Seeing this little guy in Sofia made me realize how quickly robots have already slipped into ordinary life — hotels, restaurants, airports, warehouses, factories. Of course, they might not be as intelligent as we would like it to be, yet! The robot revolution may not arrive with some dramatic sci-fi moment. We may simply look around one day and realize they’re already everywhere.
