The chip handles front-end sensor processing and AI workloads before feeding data into Waymo’s broader onboard compute system, which has become 20x more powerful over the past eight years. Waymo says the system can process all 13 high-resolution cameras simultaneously in real time, while using redundant compute for safety. Its broader hardware stack also uses components from Nvidia, AMD, Micron, Samsung, SanDisk, Socionext and TSMC.
