UAE RETHINKS 5GW AI CAMPUS AFTER IRAN ATTACKS The UAE is revising plans for its massive 5GW AI data center project, one of the largest planned outside the U.S., after Iranian missile and drone attacks raised new concerns around critical infrastructure security, Reuters reports. The original plan for a single 10-square-mile Abu Dhabi campus will now likely shift toward a network of data centers spread across the UAE. Officials are considering major security upgrades, including air-defense systems, drone and missile interceptors, electronic jamming, blast-resistant construction, backup power and cooling, and potentially putting the most sensitive facilities underground or inside mountains. The first phase, the $30B, 1GW Stargate UAE cluster, is still expected to move forward, with its first 200MW scheduled to come online this year. The project is led by G42 and involves U.S. partners including Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle and Cisco/ The review comes after two AWS data centers in the UAE were damaged during Iranian attacks in March, while Iran separately warned that Stargate UAE could be targeted.
