Zoox currently operates about 100 custom robotaxis across four U.S. cities, with most in Las Vegas and San Francisco. Las Vegas is still its only market where riders are charged. The company already has a federal exemption allowing deployment of up to 2,500 of its steering-wheel-free vehicles per year for the next two years. Competition is also picking up: Waymo recently launched commercially in Las Vegas, while Tesla and Uber have secured permits there.
