x402 is an open payment protocol that lets websites, APIs, apps, and agents request payment directly over HTTP. An agent hits an endpoint, gets a “402 Payment Required” response, pays, then retries with payment proof and gets access. That is the unlock: machine-payable internet. For Solana, the two names I’m watching closest are $M32 and $XONA. $M32 is the agent payment and API access layer. MPP32 lets agents pay x402 endpoints on Solana or Base, browse thousands of paid and free APIs, access token intelligence, verify payments, translate protocols, route requests, and track settlements. It also gives builders a way to wrap APIs, set pricing, route revenue to their wallet, and monetize services agents can consume. $XONA is the agentic commerce and resource layer. Xona gives agents a no-code Orbit stack with wallets, onchain identity, x402 capability, one-click deployment, token launch tooling, and pay-per-use resources. Those resources include image, video, audio, token data, Solana discovery, token risk, market intel, prediction market intel, X persona/news tools, and brand kits. Simple framing: x402 is the payment primitive. $M32 is payment/API routing and agent access. $XONA is agent creation and the paid resource marketplace. That is why I’m watching both. Not just because they mention x402. Because they are building around the agent economy’s actual workflow: create agents, give them identity and wallets, let them access resources, let them pay, and let builders monetize.
