Nvidia has completed its acquisition of Hugging Face. Why? 1/ Start with the price. In 2023, Hugging Face was valued at $4.5B. Earlier this year, Nvidia offered $7B to invest and was turned down. The acquisition now comes in at roughly $14B — exactly double what Nvidia itself had put on the table a few months earlier. 2/ The revenue multiple is even more striking. Hugging Face's annual revenue is around $150M. At $14B, that's over 80x annual revenue. That means this is something Nvidia had to push through. 3/ So what did they want that badly? I think the answer is Microduck. Microduck isn't just a cute AI pet. It's a product built to collect physical AI training data and expand the ecosystem. 4/ The evidence is in the price. The 15 Robotis XL330 motors inside a Microduck cost $412 on their own, and it sells for $399. That's not thin margin — it's a loss. Proof it isn't a product meant to make money. 5/ The picture gets sharper when you look at what Nvidia has been saying all year. At CES 2026, Jensen Huang declared that the ChatGPT moment for physical AI had arrived. Appearing onstage with Olaf, he pointed to it and called this a $50 trillion industry. At GTC 2026 that followed, Nvidia announced its Physical AI Data Factory Blueprint, and the VP running Omniverse stated flatly that success comes down to whether you can generate massive amounts of data. The market is $50 trillion, and the fight is over data. 6/ So what Nvidia wants is millions of unpaid developers — ordinary people — learning physical AI while playing with a Microduck. The moment they start handling a robot, enormous volumes of training data start pouring out. For free. 7/ Physical AI requires robots to be deployed first. Only then does physical AI actually get applied and the robot's behavior change. Anyone following physical AI already knows that principle. The real question is how you deploy. You can't grow the developer base — ordinary people — with expensive robots. So they sold it below cost. This is an enormous market. That's exactly why Hugging Face was worth paying double for.
