Worked in a tech startup up, selling security software to small-medium businesses. Because of the deal figures being signed, the sales team were given 10% commission. One day a sales dude took a punt, which spitballed into a $16m deal.
Allegedly, the company consulted lawyers and all sorts to try and get off the commission, no bueno. Dude got his pay out - he maxed out his pre-tax pension contribution (to avoid excessive tax). Bought a modest house outright and invested the rest.
He knew he wasnโt retiring early etc on that but with no mortgage and plenty of savings/investments, his life is very lax. He works part time on jobs he likes the look of and enjoys life.
Thatโs the dream to most of us
