Ari Temkin of Big 12 radio joined @espnthefan to break down if the Big 12 is getting the national respect it deserves: Q: When you're looking at the AP Poll, Coaches Poll, and ESPN SP+ preseason rankings, is the Big 12 getting the respect it deserves right now? Ari Temkin: It's really interesting. Bill Connelly wrote about his final preseason SP+ rankings, basically saying that the AP Poll has underrated Texas Tech and overrated everybody else. Ben, we've been talking for the last year about how underrated BYU seems to be in the national consciousness, but via the SP+ analytical rankings, they're actually significantly lower than they are in the AP Poll. I think they are 21st in SP+, which is still second in the Big 12. The AP Poll has them at 14th. The AP is voted on by people, many of whom are not watching these teams closely, whereas SP+ takes the human element out of it. The Big 12 is at a good starting point. They just need the teams that are supposed to be good to actually be good. That's been the downfall of this conference over the last few years.
