ABC’s John Quiñones is ecstatic about Senator-elect James Talarico:
“If these numbers hold true, David, this will be a political earthquake in the state of Texas, Democrat winning the U.S. Senate seat in a red seat that has not elected one since 1988. That would be extraordinary. I interviewed James Talarico in my hometown of San Antonio. A native Texan — he’s, as you mentioned, a Presbyterian seminarian. But you know, few people know he also taught sixth grade English at Rhodes Middle School, which was the school I attended — many — many years later, of course, in the Barrio, in the poorest — one of the poorest zip codes in Texas. He told me that he learned all about poverty, all about the aspirations and dreams of the Latino community from those kids while he was working with those kids and teaching English in 6th Grade. If he pulls off this win, that’s quite the political journey.”
