The United States has so far refrained from direct military intervention in Yemen after US officials held confidential talks with Iran-backed Houthi representatives in Oman, according to sources cited by Reuters and a report by The Guardian.
The talks in Muscat reportedly secured assurances from the Houthis that they would maintain the 2025 ceasefire with Washington and would not target American vessels in the Red Sea. Oman is reported to have helped facilitate the meeting.
The development comes as the Houthis have rapidly expanded along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and intensified attacks on Saudi Arabia, putting renewed pressure on Riyadh as fighting escalates around the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
