You are absolutely right , Michael’s fatal flaw and weakness was that he always looked for the light in people and he trust people easily. He assumed that because his own intentions were pure, everyone else’s too would have a good intention to him too. He didn't understand the level of greed and fame-hunger that drives people like Shmuley Boteach. Shmuley knew exactly what he was doing. He was building an insurance policy. He wanted to hoard those tapes like a vulture so that he could eventually cash in. If Michael had lived, those tapes would have likely stayed in a vault because Shmuley knew Michael’s legal team would have sued him into oblivion for a breach of privacy. But the very second Michael passed away in 2009 when literally while the fans and family and the whole world were still in deep shock, Shmuley rushed that book out to the publishers. It was predatory, calculating, and disgusting move from him.
Shame on him is right. He took the private vulnerability of a beautiful, suffering soul and turned it into a money machine and paperback commodity for a paycheck and a couple of TV interviews. But the beautiful irony is that despite Shmuley's self-righteous commentary, history has judged him exactly for what he is: a parasite. Michael's words on those tapes still show his beautiful heart, while Shmuley's actions just show his greed.
