GRAND CANYON UPDATE: 1 dead and approximately 15 people remain missing or unaccounted for after a devastating monsoon flash flood ripped through Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch. Emergency crews and the Arizona Dept of Public Safety have successfully airlifted more than 62 stranded hikers out of the inner canyon, but urgent search and rescue operations remain active. Infrastructure damage is severe—essential footbridges have been swept away and key trans-canyon routes are heavily compromised. CLOSURES: Phantom Ranch, Bright Angel Campground, and the entire North Kaibab Trail are strictly CLOSED until further notice.
