🇯🇵🇺🇲 ICC President Tomoko Akane today urged Japan to use its diplomatic influence to counter the White House’s campaign against the tribunal. The WH imposed sanctions on Akane and a senior ICC trial lawyer last week as part of its intensifying efforts to "systematically disable" the Hague-based body. Akane: “We are not hostile toward any particular country or government. We are simply a court entrusted with investigating and bringing to trial individuals who have committed the gravest crimes in the world. What I want people to understand clearly is that we are absolutely not acting as the enemy of any government or any country.” Japan has been an American ally for more than 70 years.
