๐ฎ๐ท๐พ๐ช๐ธ๐ฆ Iran's foreign minister insists Tehran has nothing to do with the Houthi blockade of Saudi ships at Bab al-Mandeb
According to Tehran, there's nothing to see here.
Abbas Araghchi says the Houthi blockade is Yemen's own payback for more than a decade of Saudi pressure:
"I ask you: what does this have to do with us, as Iran?"
Quite a bit, as it turns out.
Days before the Houthis declared the blockade in July, Reuters reported that Iran's leadership told them to shut the strait if America hit Iran's power plants.
The WSJ reported Thursday that Revolutionary Guard officers are inside Yemen providing targeting, training and the fiber-optic FPV drones that are the IRGCโs signature, and that the war restarted when Iran flew Guard officers and missile parts into Sanaa on funeral flights in July.
Tehran wants the world to see two separate fights... but with Hormuz mined and the Red Sea route under threat, Iran and its allies now have a hand on both of the world's main oil exits.
