After finally finding the courage to propose to his girlfriend of three years, Hailey said yes. The couple then went canoeing on the Elk River in Missouri with friends to celebrate. Hailey entered the water and was quickly overpowered by the strong current. Marsh and another Rogers officer jumped in and pulled her to safety. In a heartbreaking turn, Marsh himself was swept away by the current and never resurfaced. On Monday, a motorcade carrying his body traveled through town as members of the community lined the streets to honor him. A young officer, a new fiancé, and a life cut short while protecting the person he loved most.
