$SPY finished nearly flat today, down about 0.06% and closing near $778 after dipping as low as about $777.
Here are the top stories you need to know.
1. $MSFT announced Maia 300, calling it its biggest bet yet on custom silicon, and said Maia will become the primary inference system for its own products starting in 2027 with multi gigawatt deployments. $NVDA fell about 1.3% on the news while $MSFT rose.
2. Memory stocks sold off hard after China's CXMT said it made progress on a denser 4F2 DRAM design and plans DDR5 server memory by year end. $MU dropped about 4% and slipped back under $1,000 while $SNDK fell close to 7%.
3. Every name in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index traded lower at one point, with the index down more than 2% as AI valuation worries kept pressure on chips. $AMD closed down about 2.3% and $AVGO fell about 1.9%.
4. $AMD unveiled its Helion rack at the Open Compute Project Summit, an open design for agentic AI workloads that can run CPU only or mix in up to 16 Instinct MI350P GPUs. Partners including Dell, HPE, Cisco, and Supermicro plan configurations available from November.
5. $NVDA and $CSCO introduced a new Ultra Dense Small Form Factor Pluggable optics module for AI data centers, targeting much higher bandwidth density with better power efficiency. $NVDA also opened more of its Vera Rubin infrastructure designs at the same summit.
6. Anthropic reportedly signed an unannounced multiyear cloud deal with $IREN, adding to roughly $530 billion in data center leases the lab is lining up. Shares jumped overnight on the report before giving some of those gains back.
7. $META released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, calling them its largest and most capable agent models yet, with Active Memory, a 1 million token context, and strong scores on Meta's personal agent benchmarks. Mark Zuckerberg also told the Financial Times that Meta has caught up with OpenAI and Anthropic at the frontier.
8. $NVDA is in early talks to deepen its stake in or acquire Reflection AI, the open weight coding startup it has already backed with about $800 million. Reflection's Beam model and a reported $25 billion valuation put the talks in the spotlight as $NVDA pushes further into AI software.
9. $TSM reports earnings on Thursday and is expected to post a sixth straight quarter of record profit of about $23.4 billion, up roughly 65% from a year ago. Morgan Stanley expects $TSM to raise its full year growth forecast into the low to mid 40% range.
10. Reports say $AVGO is arranging tens of billions in financing for OpenAI custom chips on top of the $42 billion facility already tied to Anthropic. That underscores how chipmakers are now helping fund the AI labs that buy their silicon.

This is the reason Microsoft is cutting its Claude token usage.
Microsoft just announced it will scale its own AI chip, Maia, to multigigawatt deployments starting in 2027. Maia will become the main system running AI inside Microsoft's products and services. Maia 200 is already live in the United States, Europe and Australia, running Microsoft Copilot today. Microsoft says Maia 200 delivers up to 1.7x more tokens per watt than leading GPU systems in Teams and Copilot.
The next chip, Maia 300, is built on $TSM's 2 nanometer process with eight HBM4 memory stacks. Microsoft says it will deliver 40% more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU systems. A full Maia 300 rack holds 96 chips and pushes up to 7x the token output of Maia 200. The Information reported that Microsoft cut its projected internal Claude spend by more than a third, down from over $1 billion a year. Its Cloud and AI group also cut per employee AI budgets from $100,000 a month to about $10,000. Microsoft is now building the chips and the models itself. Every token moved off Claude and onto Maia is money that stays with Microsoft. I think this is a long term margin story for $MSFT that most people are missing.
