Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at first. It is not because of any deal that makes the game exclusive to PlayStation. “No, historically, Rockstar has released games on consoles first,” Rockstar is focusing on its “core consumer” the main players who use consoles. Zelnick added that the team will be “judged by serving the core” and that if the core consumer is not “served first and best,” reaching other players could be an issue. This is the same plan Rockstar used before. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both launched on consoles years before they came to PC. Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track to release in 2026 on consoles. A PC version is expected to follow later.
