PlayStation 5 Gains Near-Native PS3 Game Support Through RPCS3 on Linux In late April 2026, a modder named TheFlow released a tool called PS5-Linux. It allows Linux to run on the original PlayStation 5 consoles. It works only on the first version of the PS5, called the Phat model, with older software versions 3.xx to 4.xx. After Linux is running, you can install the free RPCS3 emulator. Early tests show good results with some games can even play directly from the original PS3 disc, The PS5 is much more powerful than the PS3, so games often run faster and smoother and also look better with higher resolution.
