A fan-made native PC version of Donkey Kong 64 is in development, but the team announced the project early for an unusual reason.
The developers say another DK64 recompilation project relies heavily on AI “vibe coding,” and they wanted players to know there’s a version being built by people with years of experience working on the game’s code.
“We want to get our intention out that we’re doing a recomp of actually good quality before our competitor releases their poorly made one.”
The project aims to bring Donkey Kong 64 to PC with modern features including
-high-resolution support
-uncapped frame rates
-widescreen support
-mod support
-cross-platform compatibility
Like other recompilation projects, it won’t include Nintendo’s copyrighted game assets
