Every Dollar Fights Starvation
Basma Al-Amoudi, 27, is a mother of five living in Gaza with her children, Jouri (9), Maryam (7), Hani (5), Habiba (3), and Sarah (1), along with her mother-in-law, making a household of seven in a rented room that costs $300 a month. Their home was destroyed during the genocide, and Basma says she lost her parents as well as most of her husband's family in the bombings. Her husband was seriously injured and later lost in 2024, leaving her to care for the children on her own without a source of income. The family has been displaced more than four times and now struggles to cover rent, food, clean water, milk, diapers, and other daily needs. Her youngest daughter, Sarah, was injured in the leg and still has shrapnel in her foot, leaving her unable to walk and in need of surgery, medication, and medical treatment that is difficult to access and afford. Basma says skin problems have also become common within the family because of the living conditions, and her current campaign is focused on keeping a roof over their heads, meeting basic living expenses, and raising enough money for Sarah's treatment.
