Her husband has been missing for nearly two years, having disappeared after leaving for work, leaving Nesreen as the sole provider for the family with no steady income. She herself has kidney health issues, while one of her young sons lost his right kidney due to an injury and now risks failure of his remaining kidney because of severely reduced function and delayed medical care. Her daughter recently underwent surgery to address dangerously high eye pressure in an effort to preserve her vision. The family sustained injuries when an Israeli rocket struck their home, and even after seeking refuge in an UNRWA school, which they had hoped would be safe, they faced three separate attacks there before settling in their current tent, where they pay no rent but receive little protection from weather extremes. Although their physical wounds are gradually healing, the children's ongoing medical requirements and the persistent instability continue to exhaust Nesreen, who remains committed to sustaining her family through these hardships. Before the genocide, the family led a modest but content life, with both parents working to meet their needs and nurture their children, surrounded by love despite limited means; the siege has since taken their home, separated them from the husband and father, and forced this repeated flight amid constant danger.
