Morgan Stanley ups Tesla $TSLA 'bull case' to $840 on Semi potential
Morgan Stanley analyst Andrew Percoco raised the firm's "bull base" for Tesla shares to $840 from $820.
Morgan Stanley's freight transportation team reinforced their bullish view on the prospects for autonomous trucking with diesel prices at $6 per gallon, the analyst tells investors in a research note.
The firm says autonomous trucking offers 2.3 times better utilization, 20% lower cost per mile, and six-times higher profit per truck versus human driving. The Tesla Semi is small today but an 85c to $1.00 full self driving fee per mile equates to $12,000-$18,000 per truck per month, the analyst notes.
This means small volumes can move estimates, Morgan Stanley adds.
It keeps an Equal Weight rating on Tesla with a $400 price target along with a "positive skew contingent on scaling of high-margin autonomous offerings."
