Domino's Pizza stock is down 31% in the past 5 years.
Latest effort to turn it around is an individual-sized rectangular pizza (shaped like a...domino).
Management ran a survey and found 43% of food service meals were eaten solo. Full pizza meant for sharing while rectangular pizza ($6-7) is meant to compete in the handheld category (burgers, sandwiches, burritos, subs).
Even if it pops, Domino's overall business is hurting. It was a pioneer in pizza delivery tech but DoorDash/Uber Eats has equalized playing field for independent pizzerias.
DoorDash/Uber Eats also exploded food options (pre-apps, Chinese and pizza used to be the only delivery options that travelled well).
Same reason why Papa John's is down 80% in past 5 years.
