Having a geographically distributed family is dope. Imagine having one sibling in NYC, one in Dubai, one in SEA, parents somewhere nice in Southern Europe, etc You multiply your family’s surface area and optionality for everyone. I don’t buy the “losing your roots” discourse, you can be spread across 4 countries and still have a very strong family culture, traditions, annual gatherings, shared holidays etc. The root can become the family itself rather than the village you all happen to live in It makes the family dynamics much more interesting. One person knows London, another knows Dubai, another has spent 20 years in Asia, your parents know everyone in their little corner of Spain. You end up with this distributed network of relationships, local knowledge and opportunities that compounds over generations. Your kids can grow up feeling like half the world is basically home And it lets everyone optimise for different things. Parents don’t need to live where their children work, and children don’t need to sacrifice opportunity to stay near parents. One sibling can optimise for corporate career, another for business opportunities, another for lifestyle, etc. You don’t need one city to be good at everything if the family as a whole is spread across several You might lose some of the spontaneous stuff that comes from everyone being 20 minutes away.
