Basement Bible Study Ends in Detention: Hunan Police Lock Down House Church
Police in Leiyang City, Hunan Province, sealed a basement house church near a local hot spring and ordered its Christian organizer detained for 15 days, according to a redacted administrative penalty decision issued on September 21 by the Leiyang City Public Security Bureau. The believer, who began practicing the faith in 2014, had purchased and renovated the space where dozens gathered on Sundays for evangelism and Bible study.
Authorities cited the organizer’s statements, witness testimony, surveillance footage, and seized religious materials as conclusive evidence of illegal religious activities under Article 31 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law.
Stand with believers in Hunan—share this report, pray for the detained organizer, and urge leaders to defend religious freedom now.
